Before winter
Clear gutters, dry foundation
Every fall, the same leaves that cover the lawn end up packed into the gutters. Once they're clogged, rainwater spills over the edge instead of running to the downspouts. That water soaks the ground along the foundation, stains siding and can find its way into basements and window wells.
Winter makes it worse. Debris holds water in the gutter, where it freezes and adds weight, and standing water and rotting leaves attract insects and nesting pests. Clean gutters heading into the cold months are a simple way to avoid bigger problems later.
Our gutter cleaning starts with an inspection, then we remove leaves, twigs and debris from every gutter on the house. We finish by flushing the gutters and downspouts with water to check that they drain, and we clean up and haul away everything we pull out.
One cleaning in the fall can spare you a wet basement in spring.
Know the signs
Signs your gutters are clogged
Water spills over the edge
If rain pours over the gutter instead of out the downspout, something is blocking the flow.
Plants are growing up top
Seedlings or grass sprouting in the gutter mean there's enough packed debris to hold soil.
Gutters are sagging
Wet leaves and standing water are heavy. Sagging sections or pulling brackets often point to a full gutter.
Stains or wet spots below
Streaks on the siding, washed-out mulch or soggy ground along the foundation are signs of overflow.
Big trees overhang the roof
Homes under mature trees fill their gutters faster, especially after the fall leaf drop.

How often should gutters be cleaned?
At least once a year, ideally in late fall after most leaves have dropped. Homes with a lot of overhanging trees often benefit from a spring cleaning as well.
Can you do the gutters with my leaf removal?
Ask us about combining them. It makes sense to clear the gutters and the lawn around the same time, since both are dealing with the same trees.
Do you clean the downspouts too?
Yes. Downspouts are flushed with water as part of every gutter cleaning, so you know water is moving all the way through.
Do you repair gutters?
Our service is inspection, cleaning and flushing. If we notice sagging sections, loose brackets or damage while we work, we'll tell you what we saw so you can decide how to handle it.
Do I have to be there?
Not necessarily. We need clear access around the house and to the downspouts. We'll confirm the details when we set the date.
