Fall cleanup in West Chicago

A fall cleanup gets the whole yard ready for winter, not just the lawn. We clear leaves and debris, cut back spent perennials, prepare beds and add protective mulch where plants need it.

Before the freeze

Put the yard to bed right

Leaf removal handles what's on the lawn. A fall cleanup goes further. We look at the beds, the borders and the corners of the property and leave everything in shape to sit under snow for a few months. That means fewer surprises in spring and a much shorter list when the weather turns warm again.

Spent perennials get cut back so they don't collapse into a soggy mess over the bed. Fallen branches, sticks and storm debris come out of the yard. Beds are cleared of leaves and weeds, and we spread a protective layer of mulch around plants that benefit from extra cover through the freeze and thaw cycles of a northern Illinois winter.

Delicate plants can be covered for the season, and leaves come off the lawn so the grass isn't smothered. Not every yard needs every step. We'll walk the property with you, or look at the photos you text, and outline exactly what we plan to do before any work starts.

A good fall cleanup is really the first step of spring.

Know the signs

Signs your yard needs a cleanup

  • Perennials have browned and flopped

Once hostas, daylilies and other perennials die back, the old foliage just sits on the bed. Cutting it back now is easier than pulling mush in April.

  • Branches and sticks are scattered

Summer storms and fall wind leave debris across the lawn and beds. Anything left now ends up frozen in place under the snow.

  • Beds are full of leaves and weeds

Late-season weeds and drifted leaves crowd plants and hold moisture against their crowns. Clearing them out gives beds a clean start.

  • Mulch has thinned out

Bare soil around shrubs and perennials freezes and thaws more sharply. A fresh layer helps insulate roots through winter.

  • Weekends are already spoken for

A full fall cleanup is a lot of bending, cutting and hauling. Our crew can handle it while you deal with everything else the season brings.

The walkthrough Guillermo sent Elizabeth was out of town during the job, so the crew filmed the finished yard for her.

“Highly recommend Guillermo and his crew!”

Such a great experience, best communication, pricing, professionalism and quality of service we have ever had living in IL. Especially the west suburbs. I couldn't believe the excellent work this team did, especially after all the crazy storms recently. We were out of town when the work was done and Guillermo was nice enough to send me this thorough video of his work!

“Taken care of our lawn like it was his own.”

Jake has been our lawn guy for 3 months due to myself having surgery. Jake shows pure professionalism, and has taken care of our lawn like it was his own. Lots of pride in mowing, weed eating, and leaf blowing every time he tended to our lawn. If you're looking for a guarantee lawn service, then call Jake! Best prices, and service!

Fall cleanup FAQ

Questions, answered.

What's the difference between fall cleanup and leaf removal?

Leaf removal focuses on getting leaves off the lawn, beds and hard surfaces. A fall cleanup includes that plus cutting back perennials, clearing beds, picking up debris and adding protective mulch. If you're not sure which you need, send us a few photos.

Do you cut back all my perennials?

We'll talk it through first. Some people want everything cut back for a clean look, while others like to leave certain plants standing over winter. We'll follow your preference.

When is the best time for a fall cleanup?

After most perennials have died back and most leaves are down, but before the ground freezes and snow arrives. In most years that lands somewhere in late October or November.

Do you haul everything away?

Yes. Leaves, cuttings, branches and debris are removed from the property, so there are no piles or bags left behind.

Can you cover tender plants for winter?

Ask us about it when we look at the property. Covering delicate plants can be part of a fall cleanup, and we'll point out anything we think could use protection.
