Aeration & seeding in West Chicago

When soil packs down, water runs off, roots stay shallow and the lawn thins out. Aeration opens the soil back up, and seeding fills in the gaps with grass suited to your yard.

Healthier soil

Let the lawn breathe again

Foot traffic, mowing, play and heavy clay all press soil particles together over time. Compacted soil leaves little room for air and water, so grass roots stay near the surface and struggle through heat and dry spells. The result is the thin, patchy, browning lawn a lot of homeowners fight every summer.

Aeration uses specialized equipment to perforate the soil across the lawn. Those openings let air, water and nutrients get down to the root zone and relieve the compaction that's holding the grass back. With room to grow, roots get stronger and deeper, and the lawn handles stress better.

Seeding right after aeration gives new seed good contact with the soil. We use high-quality seed suited to your lawn's conditions, whether that's full sun, shade or a mix, helping thin areas fill in and the whole lawn grow thicker and more resilient.

Healthy grass starts below the surface, in soil that roots can actually grow through.

Know the signs

Signs your lawn needs aeration

  • Water puddles or runs off

If rain sits on the surface or sheets off instead of soaking in, the soil is likely compacted.

  • The lawn is thin and patchy

Bare spots and thin areas that don't fill in on their own often point to roots that can't get established.

  • Grass browns fast in summer

Shallow roots dry out quickly. A lawn that goes brown at the first hot stretch usually needs deeper roots.

  • The yard gets heavy traffic

Kids, pets and regular foot paths pack soil down quickly, especially in the same spots every day.

  • Soil feels hard underfoot

If it's tough to push a screwdriver into moist soil, grass roots are having the same trouble.

The walkthrough Guillermo sent Elizabeth was out of town during the job, so the crew filmed the finished yard for her.

★★★★★

“Highly recommend Guillermo and his crew!”

Such a great experience, best communication, pricing, professionalism and quality of service we have ever had living in IL. Especially the west suburbs. I couldn't believe the excellent work this team did, especially after all the crazy storms recently. We were out of town when the work was done and Guillermo was nice enough to send me this thorough video of his work!

Jake has been our lawn guy for 3 months due to myself having surgery. Jake shows pure professionalism, and has taken care of our lawn like it was his own. Lots of pride in mowing, weed eating, and leaf blowing every time he tended to our lawn. If you're looking for a guarantee lawn service, then call Jake! Best prices, and service!

Aeration & seeding FAQ

Questions, answered.

Something else? Call or text 630-746-4248.

When is the best time to aerate and seed?

For the cool-season grasses common in northern Illinois, early fall is generally the best window, with spring as a second option. The soil is still warm, nights are cooler and weeds are less competitive. We'll talk through timing for your lawn.

How often should a lawn be aerated?

It depends on your soil and how much use the lawn gets. Heavily used lawns and clay soils benefit from more frequent aeration than lightly used ones. We'll give you an honest recommendation after looking at the yard.

Will I need to water the new seed?

Yes. New seed needs consistent moisture to germinate and get established. We'll go over what that looks like for your lawn when we finish.

Can I mow after aeration and seeding?

Hold off until the new grass has grown in enough to handle it. We'll let you know what to watch for before the first cut.

Can you fertilize at the same time?

Ask us about combining aeration and seeding with lawn fertilization. Opening the soil and feeding the lawn work well together, and we'll tailor the plan to what your lawn needs.
